Memletics.com Newsletter - July 2003

From http://www.memletics.com

Hi everyone! Here's the July 2003 Newsletter from Memletics.com. In this newsletter I:

  • Let you know what’s been happening at Memletics.com over June
  • Provide some free concentration tips from the Manual
  • Advise of site updates at Memletics.com
  • Discuss some coming features for Memletics.com

We’re also trialing a new email format with this release, so please let us know if the format doesn’t work well in your email program.

June at Memletics.com

It’s been another busy and growing month here at Memletics.com. Website visits more than doubled from May (10,000 visits, 80,000 hits). In June alone, people from countries such as Switzerland, Portugal, Fiji, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, New Zealand, and the UAE have joined those already using Memletics, along with many more from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.

Concentration Tips

Concentration is a big part of learning well, and it’s a popular topic at Memletics.com. In this newsletter I provide you with tips from the Memletics Manual to help you concentrate better while learning. These are from the Memletic State chapter – Mental State:

  • “Be here now.” Every time you find yourself distracted, say “Be Here Now.” Say it aloud if possible, otherwise just repeat it in your mind. Then bring your attention back to your task. In the beginning, you may find that you do this a lot. Over time, you gain more focus and your mind stays where you want it.
  • Paragraph marking. If you are reading a book or article, tick each paragraph as you read it. Use a pencil in case you want to re-read parts of it later.
  • Keep a distraction log. Every time you find yourself distracted, draw a tick or write the current time on a separate piece of paper. This is your distraction log. Initially the number of distractions may surprise you. By highlighting your distractions, you can begin to control and reduce them.
  • Write down distractions. If something important comes up as a distraction, simply write it down so you can deal with it later. Better yet, set a distraction time. Agree with yourself to take a break and deal with those distractions at that time.
  • Switch topics. Rather than spending a long time on one particular topic, switch between various unrelated topics if possible. The brain loves variety and rewards you with better concentration.
  • Make it interactive. If studying with others, plan some time to get together and discuss the material you are learning. Even if you are not at the same stage in the course, simply agree to spend ten minutes listening to one another talk about their current study topic.

The Memletics Manual provides much information if you are seeking to improve your concentration. For example:

  • In the Memletic State chapter there's more information specifically on attention and concentration.
  • Also in the Memletic State chapter you'll learn how cell state and physical state can significantly influence your ability to concentrate and learn. For instance, did you know there's an optimum room temperature for learning, and that even a few degrees difference can have a negative impact?
  • In the Memletic Process you'll learn the specific steps to learn any new topic. You can concentrate better at each stage because you know you are following the right steps.
  • In the challenges chapter you'll learn about the common learning challenges and how to overcome them. There are specific tips to overcome motivation issues, dealing with fears and mistakes, and acting under pressure. All of these can negatively impact concentration and the Memletics Manual provides you with many ways to overcome these challenges.

In summary, Memletics is a great way to improve your concentration and learn faster. To learn more about the manual, visit http://www.memletics.com/manual/default.asp

Site Updates

There haven’t been too many visible site updates over the last month. Much of our work has been “behind the scenes.” We’ve been automating backend processes, working on new features (see below), and enhancing site content for specific visitors.

We have added a page describing some of our current research projects. You can see more at http://www.memletics.com/about/research.asp

Coming features

We’re working on two new features:

  • An affiliate program. Would you like to receive rewards for recommending the Memletics Manual to others? This will be a commission to you for each visitor who buys the manual with your referral ID.
  • An introductory training course. We’ve had inquiries from people wanting to know if we’re planning on providing training to “Memletics Trainers” – people who can teach Memletics to others. We’re working with a local training organization to create the first course of several, and we’ll be providing the materials to other training organizations around the world so they can start running local courses in Memletics.

If you have any comments on these features (or if you have others you’d like to suggest) please reply to sean@memletics.com

Next Newsletter

The next newsletter will be published in the first week of August. Until then, take care and learn well!

Kind Regards,
