We're currently finishing testing on these so keep an eye out for these
new updates, or subscribe to the Instructor FlashUpdate service below and
we'll email you when they are available.
Free offline version: We've also added a new offline version of

We've been working with a graphic design company to create new a new
logo, book cover and website layout for Memletics. Here is a sneak preview
of two logos we'll be asking you to vote on in the user survey:

Quick update our two new services launched in December
Over the past month we've added two major new services to our
content-specific portals:
Accelerated learning news items
Many people take to setting goals as part of new year resolutions, so
here are a few research article abstracts on goal setting from

other related articles.
Testimonials for Learning-Styles-Online.com
Here is just some of the positive feedback we've received for our new
learning style inventory at
http://www.learning-styles-online.com:
- Margaret, January 2004: I
like how easy it is to use. I take my new students through the site at an
early stage in their learning and they all comment on how helpful it is to
analyze their own style and use the information to support their own
learning.
- Lesley,
January 2004: I was only looking for a list of the seven
learning styles but here I found much much more, thanks a lot!!
- Janice, December 2003:
"Thank you for such a wonderful site. I am trying to get my high school
students to recognize their learning styles and your site has been the
best site in this journey."
- PJ, December 2003: "Very
helpful to get a glimpse at areas of yourself that you don't normally
think about."
- Halley, December 2003: "I
thought that this test was GREAT! It really unlocked my learning styles
and helped me! Thank you."

Caffeine - good for learning?
Do you find yourself reaching for coffee or tea to help you stay awake
while studying or learning? Here's what the Memletics Manual has to say
about caffeine:
Caffeine may be the most widely used psychoactive drug in western
society. It improves alertness, reaction times and information processing.
This indirectly helps you learn and remember new information. Caffeine is
also helpful in creative tasks, such as writing and free association.
Caffeine is helpful in these activities as well as simple and repetitive
tasks. However, caffeine can interfere as tasks get more complex. It can
degrade our ability to pick out important information in a high workload
environment, keep that information in working memory, and solve complex
problems. As the load on working memory increases, the effect of caffeine
changes from good to bad. You may want to keep this in mind if you are
performing complex activities.
Like other drugs, it's essential to know when to use caffeine. Indeed, it
appears that some of the negative side effects of caffeine only appear if
you abuse it. Here are some points to keep in mind:
- Use it after sleep. Use caffeine in the morning to speed the
transition from sleep to full mental alertness. It's also useful after a
lunchtime siesta. Some researchers believe the only "right" time to use
caffeine is after sleep or rest.
- Use it for creative activities. Such as writing, visualization
and association activities.
- Avoid it before bed. Caffeine has a half-life in the body of 6
hours. Use of caffeine before bedtime negatively influences sleep
patterns. This may then mean you want more caffeine the next day!
- Don't use it as a substitute for sleep. You should not use
caffeine to battle circadian sleepiness. This is where people abuse
caffeine the most, and also where most side effects appear. These side
effects can include irritability, depression and overwhelming tiredness.
- Minimal use during flying and other complex high-workload
activities. Discuss with your flight surgeon or medical practitioner
if you need to work at times that conflict with your circadian rhythm.
Safe dosages range between 200 to 400mg a day. Rough amounts of caffeine
in typical drinks are: coffee - 100mg a cup, tea - 50mg a cup, cola soft
drink - 40mg a can.

more people will find out about Memletics. We have some

person you refer who ends up buying a book. See
http://www.memletics.com/gd/affiliateprogram.asp
- Write a testimonial. If you are already a reader of the

consider writing a testimonial. Send it to us via email or post in the
Members area on the site.
- Provide comments or feedback. If you don't believe Memletics is
as valuable as it could be, then please let us know about it. We welcome
